What stays home, and what reaches us.

The app and this website handle information differently. This page explains both in plain terms.

This notice is provided by Gradient Noise, Inc. (“we”, “us”), which operates TV Night Guard and tvnightguard.com. Last updated for the 0.1.0-beta.4 release.

The TV Night Guard app

The app runs on your Windows or Linux computer and controls TVs on your home network. It has no account, analytics, advertising, viewing-history collection, automatic support upload, cloud TV-control service, or automatic update check in this beta.

  • Local network traffic. When you click Search, the app sends discovery queries on local IPv4 network interfaces. Pairing, connection checks, off tests, and scheduled checks contact TV addresses you select. It does not use a vendor cloud and needs no account, subscription, or Samsung Windows software.
  • Stored on your computer. The app stores TV names, private IP addresses, platform, model, device identity/certificate fingerprint, quiet hours, weekdays, selected computer options, per-TV test confirmation, and the last 200 local activity events. Events may include room names and status changes; credentials are never intentionally logged.
  • Encrypted credentials. Pairing tokens and Sony pre-shared keys are encrypted with the operating system’s credential protection through Electron safeStorage. Windows uses DPAPI for the signed-in user. Linux requires a working secure keyring and rejects the insecure plaintext backend. Other software running as your user may be able to decrypt credentials.
  • No tracking. The app has no advertising, analytics, viewing-history collection, or automatic diagnostic uploads. It does not know what you watch.
  • Diagnostics only when you choose. Save anonymous diagnostics creates a file only where you choose; it is not uploaded. It includes app version, operating system/architecture, timezone, quiet-hours schedule, TV models/platforms, test/enable flags, and coarse status. It excludes room names, IP addresses, unique device identities, credentials, and activity text. Review it before sharing. If you email it to us, we handle it like any support email, described below.

Windows uses %APPDATA%\TV Night Guard Beta. Linux uses $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/TV Night Guard Beta, normally ~/.config/TV Night Guard Beta. Downloaded runtime files do not contain your saved pairing credentials. Removing a TV deletes its saved credential and configuration, but old activity events may retain its room name until they age out of the 200-event limit. Uninstalling alone retains local settings. To remove all local data, turn off startup and wake settings, quit the app, and remove its data folder. Optional startup and wake tasks are created only when you select and save those options; turn them off in Settings before uninstalling.

See the beta.4 privacy notice for the app-specific details.

Your TV manufacturer’s own services and privacy terms still apply to your TV. The app does not change them.

This website

The website has no marketing, advertising, or analytics tools installed, and does not set tracking cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google’s servers, and Google receives the standard request information that comes with that.

There is no beta mailing list or newsletter signup on this site today. If one is added, it will be separate from feedback, require an explicit opt-in, and be described here first.

Feedback you send

When you submit the feedback form, we store what you entered in a private hosted database:

  • TV platform, model, and firmware (if given)
  • Operating system (if given) and the issue category
  • Your message
  • Your email address, only if you choose to give one
  • Submission time and basic technical information used to prevent spam and abuse

Feedback is not emailed automatically. Submissions are saved to the database and read there by the TV Night Guard team. You will not receive an automatic confirmation email.

We use feedback to understand compatibility, fix problems, and improve setup. If you gave an email address, we may use it to reply about your report. We will not add it to a mailing list or use it for marketing, and we do not sell or rent your information.

We keep feedback for as long as it is useful for developing and supporting TV Night Guard, and delete it when it no longer is, or when you ask us to. Please do not include pairing tokens, pre-shared keys, passwords, or your application-data folder in any message.

Emails you send to support@tvnightguard.com, including diagnostic files, are kept in our email system and handled the same way.

Hosting request logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical request logs when pages or the feedback form are loaded. These logs may include your IP address, browser and device details (user agent), the page requested, and the time. They are used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service and are retained according to the provider’s standard practices.

Service providers

We rely on providers for hosting, database storage, and email. They process information on our behalf to run these services. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of people or the service.

Your choices and rights

You can use the app without ever contacting us. You can send feedback without an email address. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete feedback or emails you sent by writing to support@tvnightguard.com; including your feedback reference helps us find it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority. Nothing in this notice limits those rights.

Children

TV Night Guard is intended for use by parents and other adults managing household TVs. The website and feedback form are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect feedback we store, and limit access to people working on TV Night Guard. No system is perfectly secure.
